Businesses and other organizations have overemphasized the importance of [b]working as a team. Clearly, in any human group, it is the strong [b]individual, the person with the most commitment and energy, who gets things [b]done. " [b]Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated [b]above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own [b]experience, observations, or reading. (个体和整体) [b][b]The relationship between teamwork and individual strength, energy, and [b]commitment is complex; whether they operate in a complementary or [b]antagonistic manner depends on: (1) the goals toward which the traits are [b]directed, (2) the degree of emphasis on teamwork, and (3) the job of the [b]individual within an organization. [b][b]A person's ability to work effectively in a team is not inconsistent per se [b](本质上intrinsically) with personal strength, energy and commitment. If [b]exercised in a self-serving manner-for example, through pilfering or [b]backstabbing-these traits can operate against the organization. Conversely, [b]if directed toward the firm's goals, these goals can motivate other team [b]members, thereby advancing common goals. World War II generals Patton and [b]Rommel understood this point and knew how to bring out the best individual [b]qualities in their troops, while at the same time instilling a strong sense [b]of team and common purpose. [b][b]Nevertheless, overemphasizing teamwork can be counterproductive for an [b]organization. A successful team requires both natural leaders and natural [b]followers; otherwise, a team will accomplish little. Undue emphasis on [b]teamwork may quell initiative among natural leaders, thereby thwarting team [b]goals. Also, teamwork can be overemphasized with a commissioned sales force [b]of highly competitive and autonomic individuals. Overemphasis on teamwork [b]here might stifle healthy competition, thereby defeating a firm's [b]objectives. In other organizational areas, however, teamwork is critical. [b]For example, a product-development team must progress in lock-step fashion [b]toward common goals, such as meeting a rollout deadline. [b][b]In sum, individual strength, commitment, and energy can complement a strong [b]team approach; as long as individual autonomy is not undermined, alt can [b]operate in a synergistic manner to achieve an organization's goals.
