6月19日晚，寄托930主题聊天活动邀请钱坤强老师作为嘉宾，和大家进行了一个半小时的聊 [b]天，回答了网友关提出的诸多问题，我们将聊天内容整理如下： [b][b]== 对GRE作文的基本介绍： [b]*主持人：钱老师将先介绍一下GRE作文的准备和写作思路 [b][b]Hi, everybody. I am very honored to be the guest speaker tonight. I am [b]sitting comfortably in the air-conditioned office of my company in Beijing, [b]not somewhere abroad. In this air-conditioned environment, we are going to [b]discuss a very hot [b]that is, GRE Analytical Writing. Over the past six months, my American [b]friends and I have been developing methods of dealing with this problem and [b]this evening I would like to answer all the questions that interest [b]everybody to find a possible solution to the forthcoming GRE Analytical [b]writing. [b]to the first question: Yes, to some extent, memorizing a certain amount of [b]sample essays would be helpful but there is a shortcoming. You do not know [b]which topic you are going to write on. So the best way is to learn how to [b]write a standard GRE essay. I think to prepare for the writing task, one [b]month is enough. [b]To write a good essay, there are three preconditions: a good structure, [b]good content, and good language. [b]GRE writing is divided into two essays. One is called "Perspective on an [b]Issue" in which you have to express your own views concerning a given [b]topic. [b]You can either favor, oppose or qualify a statement. [b]You express your own views. In another type of essay, the Argument, you [b]comment on how reasonable a statement is. The statement is always [b]plausible. [b]It is wrong for the most part and you have to point out those logical [b]errors and indicate what is the correct logic. [b]At present, there is only one book on writing. I also said that I am [b]preparing another book. In my forthcoming book, I will provide 101 sample [b]essays. [b]The difficulty with the argument is to discover at least two and best 3 [b]logical mistakes made. [b]Structure is one of the three main factors in ensuring a good GRE essay. [b]It is wise to take in November because by that time you can learn from the [b]experiences of others. [b][b][b]==网友自由提问 [b][b]问: are there any standard sentences in analytical writing? [b]答: There are some fixed sentences for writing two types of essays and you [b]can try to memorize them. [b][b]问: how many words is fit [b]答: ：The appropriate word limit for one standard essay is between 500 to [b]600 words. [b][b]问: 现在加试的作文和分析性作文有什么不同？ [b]答: There is no essential difference. The only difference is that Writing [b]Assessment is changed to Analytical Writing. The reason for this change is [b]that Analytical Writing is to replace the original Analytical Section. [b][b]问: 钱老师，你是怎样提高自己的写作水平的？ [b]答: I was an English major and as a junior, I went to Britain to study [b]English literature. During those years, I had to write several 20-page [b]essays a week. That was how I developed my writing skill. [b][b]问: take how many time and what do you think is most important in the [b]grading [b]答: As I have pointed out, the judge of your essays look at the structure, [b]the content and the language to determine score. [b][b]问:如何提高呢我的水平呢? [b]答: To undertake training, you first imitate. Then you try to write your [b]own essays, and then you ask others' opinions, and then you perfect your [b]skills until you are finally satisfied with your writing skills. [b][b][b]问:我现在只靠了GRE,还没考作文，关系大吗? [b]答: Because writing is taken separately, you can prepare after your General [b]Test. [b][b]问: using common words is better than literary words in the test ? [b]答: In writing, you must try to use formal style, big words and long [b]sentences for the most part and [b][b]问: 我写作文老是先想到汉语,怎么办? [b]答: For non English majors, it is natural to think in Chinese first. All [b]you have to do is to translate into English. [b][b]问: 钱老师，以前的逻辑题还有没有参考价值 [b]答: Analytical ability is of course important because among two essays, one [b]is an Argument. In this argument essay, you have to discuss how well the [b]provided statement reasons. You have to point out the logic errors that are [b]committed in the original statement. [b][b]问: 钱老师，您认为我们应该多用一些简单的句子还是复杂的句子？ [b]答: As for the sentences, ETS says that a good essay should show sentence [b]variations. That is, long sentences alternates with shorter sentences. [b][b][b]问：我们还需要考逻辑吗？ [b]答：No. The analytical section is canceled. [b][b]问：我没复习过以前的逻辑，也无逻辑理论知识，需不需要在补一下，还是背范文就行 [b]答：You can simply ignore the previous analytical section. [b]：No. [b][b]问：A改成AW后--以前的真题是否就此失去模拟价值--只能做练习题? [b]答：Yes, the original analytical section can be completely ignored. [b][b]问：钱老师，前后两种GRE考试对申请有何影响 [b]答：At present, ETS or American admissions office will not discriminate. [b][b]问：有人说10月以前考的需要再考一个作文，是这样吗 [b]答：NO [b][b]问：i have taken part in GRE test but writing you think is necessary for [b]me to take the writing test again [b]答：NO [b][b]问：you mean it will not influence me without writing score [b]答：Yes. [b][b]问：现在有没有关于逻辑作文的范文 [b]答：There are some in the book by Sun Yuan. But I am developing another [b]book. [b][b]问：你认为三个月作文能力能从TWE4.0提升到GRE5.0吗？ [b]答：It is not enough. One month is enough.（此句费解） [b][b]问：钱老师，你觉得应该背新概念的哪一册呢 [b]答：It is not wise to memorize New Concept. [b][b]问：背新概念有用吗 [b]答；It is help, New concept 4 [b][b]问：钱老师，您觉得是否应该背一些范文？背哪些？另外，能说一下为什么背新概念不好 [b]吗？ [b]答：New Concept is not directly related to the type of writing required by [b]GRE. [b][b]问：背范文是精选一部分后背的滚瓜烂熟还是多背一些寻找语感 [b]答；You only have to memorize a few [b][b]问：Ｍr. Qian, you mean in the test, it is better to write the shorter [b]sentence than the longer [b]答：No. Most long sentence. A few short sentences. [b][b]问：钱老师，在托福作文里，选择哪钟观点不重要，关键说清自己的道理，还可套用固定句 [b]式，在issue的文章里可以这样吗？ [b]答：The topics in the GRE writing are always changing. All you have [b]memorized cannot apply. To some extent, you can apply the same technique [b]in TOEFL as in GRE. But GRE writing is much more difficult. [b][b]问：topics in the GRE 不都是来自pool吗？怎么会老是changing [b]答；GRE writing topics come from all subjects. [b][b]问：钱老师--考作文是否要增加词汇量? [b]答：No. Your GRE vocabulary is enough. [b][b]问：钱老师，准备G的作文，需要天天写作文吗？ [b]答：No, you have to write only a few and when you have reached a [b]satisfactory level, you can take the test. [b][b]问：issue类文章，可以象托福作文一样，套用固定模式？ [b]答：Yes, you can. But you must have better patterns. also, your essays are [b]read by human readers. Not copy too much. [b][b]问：The issue topics showed in the ETS are all topics or changing? [b]答：Perhaps ETS will change topics in Oct. [b][b]问：钱老师，GRE作文是机器评分吗？如果也有题库的话，那我想，是否可以考大家的总结， [b]也总结出WRTIING的机经？因为机器评分应该有模式的，还有，TOPIC有重复的可能吗，就是 [b]说啼哭有碰到的希望 [b]答：There is a fixed pool. But we do not know whether the pool will change [b]in the future. [b][b]问：Do u think jj will have effect after 1th,oct? [b]答：jj will be useful because it will tell us whether ETS has changed the [b]pool. [b][b][b]问：如果作文是用手在纸上写的，是不是就只有人工判卷了？ [b]答：According to ETs, writings are read by human readers. [b][b]问：作文既然是手写和键盘输入皆可,那么手写文章的话中国学生一般都没有经过英文书法训 [b]练,在鬼子看来可能会感觉很幼稚,那么是否评分时和键盘输入的考生相比会公平呢? [b]答：I suggest that you type. [b][b]问；Mr. Qian, you mean the ETS will choose the topic from the pool? [b]答：YES [b][b]问：pool不会有变吧。有新的范文吗 [b]答：In computerized test, there should be change. [b][b]问：but the topic which had been wrote are not in the pool according to [b]your book and sunyuan? [b]答：four steps: imitate, write, ask others' opinion and keep improving. [b][b]问：作文分数会当场出来吗 [b]答：NO [b][b]问：那么我们只采取一种mode? [b]答：it will be a different mode. [b][b]问：作文中的逻辑难度与以前的逻辑题比有什么变化 [b]答：writing test tests your analytical skills and writing skills. The [b]difficulty will be less. [b][b]问：How to score new type ?
