改来改去,还是太长,望大家给提提意见:-) [b]http://www.gter.net/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=57569 [b]========================================================================= [b]Personal Statement [b]After graduated from the China Agricultural University, the best one of [b]life and agriculture science, I would like to pursue my Ph.D. degree within [b]the field of ’parallel and distributed processing’ and ‘database [b]system’ in the Nanyang Technological University. My goal is to become a [b]fruitful researcher and educationalist with the belief my ability and [b]experience will make me a successful one. [b][b]To become a scientist is my dream even in the childhood, however, the [b]subject once seemed unexpected to me. I choose the C.A.U. with desire to [b]become a biologist. Nevertheless, I was matriculated by the department of [b]Computer Science. It is easy to imagine how I was frustrated. Compared to [b]the various and colorful world of life, the mathematics theorems and [b]programming languages are really dull and obscure. [b][b]Fortunately, professor Lei, an illuminating and humorous person, shined a [b]light on my study. I began to realize that the Computer Systems are also [b]complex organisms, and the abstract theorems and languages are eventually [b]their accurate descriptions and rules. My interests were then ignited. I [b]recognized that I had made wrong. So in the following years, I put great [b]attention to my courses. I got A level scores in ‘Discrete [b]Mathematics’, , ‘Data Structure and Algorithm’ ,’C++ programming’, ’ [b]Object Oriented programming’ ,‘Numerical Analysis’ and ‘Database System [b]theory’. Also, I restudied ‘higher mathematics’ and ‘probability theory [b]and statistics ’. After that, I made a good score in Physics of quantum [b]dynamics, in which calculus and probability are widely used. After one year [b]of hard work, I ranked 3rd in 30 students. In the 3rd year, my GPA rank [b]reached the best in the class. Finally, I was offered a chance of master [b]program without mandatory exams and the title of ‘excellence graduate’ [b]for my performance. [b][b]The key of my change is the study of UNIX source code—Mr. Lei advised me [b]to do so. UNIX is an encyclopedia of algorithm and data structure: Priority- [b]queue, automata, linked-list, hash-table, indexed file system tree, ‘Quick [b]Sorting’, protocol stack, lexical parsing and so on. Even, the system [b]itself is a good layered-model. Moreover, what impressed me most is the [b]robustness and scientific tradition behind UNIX. Thereafter, the idea of [b]going abroad to find its spirit came into my mind. [b][b]During my professional practice and courses, I began to know that the data [b]from agricultural and life science are far more multitudinous and complex [b]than others, while their distribution is distant and unbalanced. Thus the [b]capacity of data retrieval and processing is most crucial. Obvious, [b]parallel processing is a promising solution to that. Yet, this kind of work [b]still remains undeveloped in China: lots of data is not well mined at all, [b]due to the lack of processing ability and algorithm. This phenomenon really [b]shocked me very much, strengthened my desire to find a solution to [b]industrialized countries. [b][b]The last one is my final project. My plan to build up an OS is never given [b]up. In the 3rd grade, some other young students and I formed an interests [b]group for that goal through the Internet; we were all from famous ones; it [b]seemed there are many ambitious ones like me. Every time, we exchange our [b]ideas about the proposed OS, drawing out the scratch, analyses UNIX and DOS [b]source code. We learned much form each other: programming skills, [b]aggressiveness, perseverance, and teamwork bounded us together. The topic [b]of information collecting embedded system gave me a chance to exploit all [b]my knowledge and programming skills. Its aim is to build up a prototype for [b]future agricultural applications. By technological means, the project may [b]be considered as a success, while I got other lessons from that: the [b]initial-plan of mine is so over-ambitious that causes some impossible [b]missions, which have to be cut down later; UNIX is such a canon that under [b]many cases, you are unable to draw out any better solution than it. After [b]that, my final determination is made: go to an industrialized country to [b]get advanced knowledge and working experience to solve all those [b]difficulties. [b][b]As the question of which country to go, I deem Singapore as the ideal [b]place: her harmony multi-culture background, deep innovation of modern [b]science and friendly attitude to foreign student are all valuable. And as [b]the best technological university, the N.T.U. attracts my most. [b][b]Given these consideration, I am very attracted to the Graduate Program at [b]the Nanyang Technological University. At Nanyang, I would welcome the [b]opportunity to explore my interests in complicated data structure, [b]distributed systems and advanced programming skills. My motivation to [b]succeed is reflected in both my academic standing and my dedication to [b]research. I feel that these attributes, combined with an intensified [b]interest, will ensure my success.
